How Our Custom Necklace Pendants Are Created
We use CAD and lost wax casting to create our custom jewelry. But before that we have to discuss what you want. Once we have the idea nailed down and a deposit had been paid, we will begin designing the piece. When we have a first draft of the pendant, we will send you renderings. You will then have an opportunity to make any changes you want. You can make as many as is necessary without charge, as long as the changes are not for some new idea. Or you aren’t adding stones, making it smaller, or something that incurs a cost.
When we have your approval on the design, we will begin the lost wax casting part of the process. The first step is to “grow” a wax model of the pendant using a 3d printer. When the wax is complete is is enveloped in a material called investment. It is a rubber like material that can withstand the temps of molten precious metals. When the investment dries, the mold is place in an oven, where it is heated for around 15 hours at over 1200 degrees. This heat melts the wax away, leaving a space in its shape.
Next, molten metal is poured into the mold. When it cools, the investment is removed, leaving the raw casting. It is polished, any stones are set, engraving or enamel, if any are done last. And now your piece is ready!
