In this post, we will discuss Radiant Cut Diamonds so that you can make the best decision when buying yours.
What Are Radiant Cut Diamonds?
A radiant cut diamond is a popular choice for engagement rings and other jewelry pieces due to its unique appearance and brilliance. This diamond cut features trimmed corners and a rectangular or square shape. Basically, it combines the elegance of emerald cuts with the sparkle of round brilliant cuts. The radiant cut diamond has 70 facets, allowing it to reflect light beautifully and create a stunning display of sparkle and fire.
Who Invented Radiant Cuts?
The radiant cut diamond was invented by Henry Grossbard in 1977. Grossbard aimed to create a diamond cut that combined the brilliance of a round cut with the elegance of an emerald cut. The result was the radiant cut, featuring trimmed corners and 70 facets that maximize the diamond’s brilliance and fire.
The radiant cut diamond quickly gained popularity for its unique combination of sparkle and shape. Its versatility makes it a popular choice for engagement rings and other jewelry pieces. With its clean lines and brilliant sparkle, the radiant cut continues to be a sought-after choice for those looking for a distinctive and eye-catching diamond cut.
Features Of Radiant Cuts
Radiant cut diamonds are known for their unique square or rectangular shape with trimmed corners. This cut combines the elegance of the emerald cut with the brilliance of the round cut, making it a popular choice for engagement rings. The 70 facets of a radiant cut diamond allow for maximum light reflection, giving it a stunning sparkle that catches the eye.
One of the key features of radiant cut diamonds is their versatility. They can be set in various styles of jewelry, from classic solitaire rings to intricate pendant designs. The cropped corners of the radiant cut diamond make it less prone to chipping compared to other fancy shapes, ensuring durability for everyday wear. This makes radiant cut diamonds a practical and stylish choice for those looking for a balance between sophistication and durability.
In addition to their beauty and durability, radiant cut diamonds offer excellent value for money. Due to their shape, they retain more of the rough diamond during the cutting process, resulting in less wastage and a lower price per carat compared to other cuts. This makes radiant cut diamonds an attractive option for those seeking a larger diamond without compromising on quality or budget.
Why Radiant Cuts Are So Hot Right Now
Radiant cuts have gained popularity recently due to their unique combination of brilliance and fire. This cut features trimmed corners and numerous facets, enhancing the diamond’s sparkle and shine. Radiant cuts are versatile and suitable for various jewelry styles. This makes them a top choice for modern consumers looking for something distinctive.

The cut’s facets act as mirrors, reflecting light internally and dispersing it for a dazzling effect. This results in a stunning display of sparkle and fire, making radiant-cut diamonds stand out from the crowd. The brilliance of radiant cuts makes them a popular choice for engagement rings and other jewelry pieces.
In addition to their beauty, radiant cuts offer a modern twist on traditional diamond shapes. The trimmed corners of radiant-cuts give them a unique silhouette that sets them apart from classic cuts like round or princess. This contemporary look appeals to those seeking a fresh and stylish design for their jewelry. With their versatility, brilliance, and modern appeal, it’s no wonder that radiant cuts are currently in high demand.

Radiant Cut Diamond Value
When considering the value of a radiant cut diamond, it’s important to take into account various factors that influence its price. Radiant cut stones are known for their brilliance and unique shape. They were created to combine the elegance of emerald cuts with the sparkle of round brilliant cuts. The value of a radiant cut diamond is determined by the 4Cs – cut, color, clarity, and carat weight. A well-cut radiant diamond will exhibit excellent fire and brilliance, making it highly desirable and valuable.
In terms of color, radiant cut diamonds are available in a wide range of hues. The most valuable radiant diamonds are those with color grades in the near-colorless to colorless range, such as D to G on the GIA color scale. Clarity is another important factor affecting the value of a radiant cut diamond. Diamonds with minimal inclusions and blemishes are considered the most valuable. Clarity grades of VS1 or higher being highly sought after.
Carat weight plays a significant role in determining the value of a radiant cut diamond. As carat weight increases, so does the price of the diamond, assuming that all other factors remain constant. When assessing the value of a radiant cut diamond, it’s essential to consider all these factors in conjunction to determine the overall worth of the diamond. By understanding the 4Cs and how they influence the value of a radiant cut diamond, you can make an informed decision when purchasing or evaluating one.
How To Get The Best Diamond For Your Money
When looking to purchase a diamond, there are a few key factors to consider to ensure you get the best value for your money. Firstly, prioritize the four C‘s: cut, color, clarity, and carat weight. A well-cut diamond will sparkle and shine, while colorless stones are more valuable. Opt for a diamond with minimal imperfections for better clarity. Remember, carat weight influences the price significantly, so find the right balance for your budget.
Secondly, educate yourself on different diamond shapes and settings. Round diamonds tend to be more expensive due to their popularity, while fancy shapes like princess or cushion cuts offer a unique and cost-effective alternative. Additionally, choosing a simple setting can make your diamond appear larger without breaking the bank. Be sure to explore various options to find the perfect combination that suits both your style and budget.
Lastly, don’t overlook the importance of buying from a reputable jeweler. Research reviews and certifications to ensure you are getting a quality diamond at a fair price. Some jewelers offer financing options or sales during certain times of the year, so keep an eye out for deals that can help you maximize your budget. By being informed and strategic in your diamond purchase, you can find a stunning stone that shines bright without overspending.
Some Pro Tips
First, avoid the DEF color grades, especially if you are putting the stone in a yellow gold setting. A G or H colored stone will be plenty white enough and going with one of these will save you quite a bit over a DEF colored stone. Even I and J colored stones can face up plenty white. So, don’t just choose the DEF colored stones because they are the “best”.
Second, unless you have tons of money to spend, don’t got for clarity over VS2. Above that and you are generally only paying for the stone to look better under a microscope. There will probably be no difference in sparkle if the cut and other specs are the same. VS2 and SI1 are generally as high as you need to go. Maybe a VS1 if you have the cash to spare. But we would never buy anything higher.
Get excellent or very good cut. Excellent if you can. Cut matters more than clarity once you get to Si1-2 clarity. The cut dictates how the light it dispersed and reflected back out of the stone. You can have a VVS1 stone that has no sparkle if it isn’t cut well. Conversely, you have have a stunning SI2 stone if it is an excellent cut.
